Art History

What schools (public universities) have great Fine Art programs?

When I reach college, I plan to major as a Fine Arts Major. I have a natural knack for art, and I want to perfect it. And I would also like to know what exact things are needed in a portfolio, and you are going to use the words "original work" I would like to know what it means. And do they have to be made within a certain period, and may they be made in an art class. Just asking.

  1. If you want a Public University, you should look for one in your State. (In State tuition is significantly lower for Public colleges) Short of knowing which State you're in, it's hard to make a suggestion. As you're interested in Art, I think the best thing you can do is search college websites, under their Art Department will be a list of faculty. Copy and Paste the name into a Yahoo search (i.e. Yahoo Images) and look at some of the work they do. If you find a professor whose work you're really impressed by, that's where you should be. There's nothing worse than studying 4 years under a professor whose style doesn't fit your own. (Yes there will always be some professors who this is the case, but you want one in a department who you can pick as a mentor or something)
