What are the fine art requirements for California and New York universities?

I know I need a year of fine art for California universities, but I heard they don't have to be consecutive anymore. Does anyone know if the year can be split up? Thanks! I mean I want to do half of my "full year" (as in two semesters of the same subject in fine arts) for this semester and then do the other half of the "full year" next year. I'm a junior and I want to get it done by the first half of next year.

1. how can you have one consecutive year? ya don't make no sense, bub! if you mean one semester one year, then another semester another year then you are ridiculous. why not just go through it in one year. you make me sick.
