Is there an art school or art institute across from the Chicago Art Museum? This is on Michigan and my friend is having a wedding reception across from the Art Museum.
Art Institute of Chicago or the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago? I'm going to be visiting Chicago for a day and would like to go to an art museum. But I don't know much about either. I'll be up there in May. As far as my preferences in Art, I like it all. I like a lot of traditional art and contemporary art (besides most of the my third grader could do that modern art). I'm going to school for architecture and minoring in Art History so I'd like to get the most out of this trip I could. Which Museum would you recommend? The Art Institute of Chicago, or the Museum of Contemporary Art? Thanks!

Can anyone tell me what painting I saw at the Art Institute of Chicago Museum? It is a painting of two young girls on a beach. They are holding hands and looking out into the ocean. I think they are wearing red dresses but I couldn't be sure. As of a couple years ago it was at the Museum of the Art Institute of Chicago, and I am guessing it is still there.
Chicago Art Museum? Does anybody know the cost of admission to the chicago art museum? Thanks! H.
What does it mean by when stewie goes to the chicago museum of art in family guy? What is it referenced to? In the episode where stewies get into tanning and thinks he has cancer after staying in a tanning bed for too long. They go to the art museum and he stares at the picture. Are they making fun of some movie or something?

Most popular paintings in Art Institute of Chicago? What are the most popular (mainstream) paintings that are displayed in the Art Institute of Chicago museum? I really want to go, but I need to talk my boyfriend into going, so I'm going to see if I can find some paintings that he might recognize.
School of Art Institute of Chicago or School Museum of Fine Arts, Boston-Pros and Cons? SAIC or SMFA? I'm highly considering the two schools, but not sure?? Is one skool too stiff, and the other too relaxed? I know SMFA is for self driven artists (like myself) but choosing between the two is so painful, please insight from students or individuals also interested... **I've done research on the pricing..not worried about that too much, more worried about the characteristics of the school and the education/students...
What are the best Art Museums/Galleries in Chicago? I'm looking to travel there in the future, and was wanting to see if I could get some advice on where to go. The websites I've checked out haven't given me too much information, so if you know any sites/places... let me know!

Trying to find more information on the artist, Felix Palm, and who might collect his works? We have a black & white drawing of my father (16" x 20") done after WWII, signed by Felix Palm and dated April 14, 1946. Here. luckily I took a picture of it: http://pwnagepolice.googlepages.com/IMG_1085.jpg Does anyone know the name of this piece? Rodin is a well known artist so I figure someone should know this. I'm such an idiot, next time I'll remember to write it down before I forget. Anyway, if anyone knows please tell me and thanks. c_mortuum, OMG THANK YOU! You just saved my life. I would select your answer as best answer but yahoo wants me to wait 4 hours before doing so. Well, until then.. THANK YOU SO MUCH! :-)

fun things to do in a museum? me and a few of my friends are going to Chicago on a school trip and we are being forced to "explore the muesum on our own" for two hours. its the big art museum that's in Chicago. but art museums are boring and we can't get out of going. is there any list for museums like "101 fun things to do in walmart"? please post suggestions! i had to spend endless hours in museums while i studied abroad and i don't like art museums except for the louvre. modern art tends to suck and jackson pollock's look like that splatter photograph backdrop they have at walmart and j.c. penneys. so please just answer my question, not comment on how not boring they are because i think they are boring and i'm very stubborn and blunt(think dr. greg house) and i'm not going to change my mind.

Fun stuff do to with a one year old in chicago? It's my daughter's birthday on Thursday and she'll be one. I'm trying to find something to do that's fun for her on her birthday. I don't want it to be outside though because of the weather. I'm looking more for indoor activities or indoor parks, petting zoos, etc. I'm thinking of the childrens art museum but I'm not sure if that is good for a child her age. Any suggestions?

Chicago locals or ex-visitors what are the HOT SPOTS? I am going to Chicago this Friday for the weekend and want to really experience the city. I want to go to at least one art museum. What is the best restaurant? Other fun things? Cute fun things too. Going to "re-kindle" a flame :-)
Who is this artist...? I went to the Chicago Art Museum yesterday and saw this amazing series of photography that I absolutely loved. But the problem is that I forgot the name of the photographer. One of her series is called "Left Behind". She used to take pictures of crime scenes but then became Christiann and now her pictures centre around the family and Christian things. One of her picters is of a father combing his son's hair. Another is a familly prayer before dinner. And another of a little girl standing on a window ledge. Do you know the name of this photographer? I absolutely love photography and want to get a book of her pictures but need to know the name first. Thank you so much!
What make Chicago such a great city to visit or live in? I've heard that Chicago is a really cool and fun city to visit from several people and I was wondering what makes it so? I don't know much about it but I've always disliked places that are completely flat with no hills or mountains so i guess i never took the time to think about visiting Chicago but now I am more interested. I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and havel lived in San Diego for the past 6 years. I love it here and all the things to do and see here, can anyone whose lived or visited both places maybe tell me the differences and similarities between the two? I like cities and urban areas so what is it about Chicago that makes it such a great city? Aside from it's famous skyline and some history I really don't know much about it. Is the nightlife really fun? What are some interesting things to do? museums, theater, art shows, ect.. don't really interest me either. So hopefully someone can describe what makes this place worth visiting b/c I'm curious Also what the hell do people do there during winter? Do people do things outside at all or do they spend it indoors for months? I've never lived in a cold climate and wouldn't know what to expect. I've spent a week or two at a time in the mountains with cold and snow but never a long time.

Art Museums... How Do Artists Get In? Does anyone know how people get their artwork into museums/exhibitions? I'm REALLY curious! Does someone have to buy them, or does an artist have to prove worthy somehow by contacting the museum/exibition? I live in New Mexico, and I'm an artist, and I think I have a couple really worthwhile pieces, but don't know how to capture the attention of a public with them. I live in the middle of nowhere, as it is... we don't have alot of art (if hardly any) related things around here, it's mostly farming/ranching/dairy etc. I want to be able to sell my pieces in markets like Chicago, New York, ect... with me not having art shows or exhibitions near me, how can I get my artwork noticed? Southwest art sells around here... Pueblos, Indians, Cowboy paintings, and I'm some, but not much into drawing that. If people can splatter paint on a canvas and call it art, surely my stuff would sell, I do art... that actually looks like art haha! Anyone upto help me? 10 points for the most helpful answer!!

What are some unique (non-banquet hall) locations in Chicago for weddings? I would like some suggestion to places that are not your typical reception/ceremony locations. I'm looking for answers from people who have either had their wedding somewhere or attended one that was at somewhere that wasn't typical. No churches, hotels or standard banquet halls. I'm think more like museums, theatres, concert halls, art galleries or large restaurants. Something quirky and different but still classy. Also, if anyone has any price ranges that would be helpful. If someone has photos from the event I would greatly appreciate a link to them if possible. The location would be for anywhere between 125-200 guests.
Museum Internships? I am a Fine Arts major and would like to get a Curator internship at a museum in New York or Chicago. If anyone has any inkling of what it would require to do so or if you work for a museum, could you give me some advice? I know it's a broad question, so here: I'm currently a senior, and my BFA will be an emphasis on Photography and Furniture Design, however, I am planning on going to grad school to get a Master's in Art Theory and Criticism. I have no museum experience thus far, but I have a portfolio and resume. What would you do? Thank you! Oh, and my school isn't much help unless you are in the Architecture Dep't; the Fine Arts people are considered Arch "dropouts," so to speak. Bummer, I know, because it's a good program...
Please describe the best date you ever had, if you want.? Mine was an ethnic lunch and a trip to the Chicago Art Institute museum. Korean BBQ and discussions on modern art, yay! It was about 8 years ago, but I still remember it quite fondly. <sigh>

We are at a hotel right down the street. We would like to go downtown to go sight seeing Saturday during the day (maybe try to hit a Second City Comedy Show matinee or go to the art museum). If we did not want to drive, what would be the easiest way of getting from Tinley Park to downtown, Second City-area-ish or Art Museum area? What lines, stops and whatever else would we need? Also around how much would this cost? Thanks -Mark

Lack of culture? My parents said that I should go see plays and stuff. I went to the DuSable museum (Chicago), and I saw "The Lion King" play. I liked neither. My Mom tried to take me to the art museum and I said no. Now I do like museums. When I went to New York I went the the American Museum of Natural History (I think that's what it's called) and I try to go the Museum of Science and Industry at least once a year. I just don't like it when my Mom tries to drag me to plays and stuff. My Mom says I need to develop some culture. I disagree. I think I'm fine. I wonder how can you guage culture? "How do you know you don't like it if you don't go." I know I don't like plays because I've seen plays. I've seen plays in person, and on video, and they are very boring. Besides, why watch plays anymore. We have movies. Thank God for special effects.......
Does anyone know a good restaurant in Chcago that serves Thai food? Anywhere in central Chicago, that would have to be. Or any other of worth near The Chicago Institute of Art.
