Art history? Select two works of art, each from a different culture, which have been removed from their original setting. Then discuss how the full force of the works has been diminished since its removal. In your essay, be sure to describe the object's original setting, its new setting and how the piece suffers from the loss of its original setting.
What universities have the best art history programs? I want to major in Art History, and my main interest is in classical European painting and sculpture. What universities have a strong program that will suit my interest? I'd prefer to be on the east coast or in Texas. Chicago sounds nice, too. =) But basically I'd be interested in learning about schools anywhere. Oh, and I thought I'd mention that my own artistic abilities are pretty much nonexistant at this point. A program focused solely on art history or one where there's a lot of help for beginning artists would be good.

Do you know of any good Art history/art conservation and restoration programs offered in Europe? Oo, Thanks Astray...I can only understand minimal French so that would be a problem. I took several years of Spanish classes, but I'm not completely fluent. Courses taught in English would probably be best for me.

What am I expected to learn from studying art history? I'm struggling as an aspiring concept artist, trying in vain to make some progress from mediocre at best to at least halfway decent, and among the vain, rhetorical advice I keep hitting--most of which is just a regurgitation of basic terms I already known, having taken a high school drawing class--is that I should study art history. What exactly is to be gained from this? How is reading about history supposed to help someone become a better artist?
How do I find an Art History job? I have a degree in English and Art History and a minor in Studio Arts. Thus far it has been truly difficult to find a position in my field. What would be a good topic for an Art History paper? I have to write a 2000 word research paper for my modern art history class and I have no idea what to write about. The prof is rather pompous too which makes trying to decide on a topic more difficult because he expects it to be something more than just a paper on a piece of art or an artist, he gave an example of "the effect of photography on painting", so it has to be something like that. Any suggestions? Thanks

Does anybody have a degree in Art History? I took one Art History course last year for my general education requirements and I fell in love with it. In fact, I did so well that I decided that this was something I could definitely get into for the rest of my life. It encompasses everything I love- history, philosophy, theology, and human psychology. However, what does one do with such a degree? Become a historian or a curator? Study to become a professor? I'm curious if anyone out there has a similar degree or predicament.

I just need some help with what to focus on. The first question is.. How does the work of Mirandola, Machiavelli, and Petrach illustrate the newborn spirit of that individual? The second is... discuss the combination of christian faith and humanist values which characterized the renaissance and how describe how this combination works in different works of art, architecture, and sculpture?
